Blend & Glow

Good things blended in good light.

Blend & Glow is a neighbourhood smoothie bar that starts before sunrise, so every cup you pick up is already at its best by the time you walk through the door.

How we do things here

We start at first light
The blenders run by 6 a.m. Fruit is cut, bases are prepped, and the bar smells like mango and ginger before most people have opened their eyes. Early starts make better smoothies.
Whole fruit, nothing powdered
We don't use pre-made mixes or flavour powders. Every smoothie is built from whole or frozen-at-peak fruit, fresh greens, and a short list of add-ins we actually believe in.
Small batches, all day
We blend in small batches so nothing sits. If we run out of something by 2 p.m., we run out. We'd rather that than serve something that's been waiting around since morning.

Why small-batch blending makes a better smoothie

There's a version of a smoothie bar that makes everything in large batches at the start of the day and pours from a jug until it's gone. It's faster, it's cheaper to run, and the smoothies are fine. They're also noticeably worse than something blended five minutes ago, and once you've had both side by side, you can't un-know that.

Owner

"Maya Osei trained as a chef in hotel kitchens, spending her last three years before Blend & Glow as a breakfast chef at a city-centre hotel. She opened the bar's first incarnation as a market hatch in March 2019, running it solo with one blender and a handwritten menu. She has a habit of arriving before sunrise, which she says is the only time the prep work feels calm. On slow mornings she reads at the window seat facing east. She keeps a small notebook of recipe ideas that she says is mostly crossed-out failures, which she considers a good sign."

FAQ

Common questions

Q01

What time do you actually open?

7 a.m., every day of the week including Sunday. We close at 3 p.m. The smoothie bowls are only available until noon, or until we run out, whichever comes first. If you're coming specifically for a bowl, earlier is safer.

Q02

Do you do anything for people who can't have dairy?

Most of our smoothies are already dairy-free. We use oat milk and coconut milk as our standard bases. If something on the menu has dairy in it, the board says so. Just ask and we'll tell you exactly what's in whatever you're looking at.

Q03

Can I order ahead?

Yes. You can order ahead through the website and pick up at the bar. It's useful if you're passing through on a busy morning and don't want to wait. We'll have it ready in the window for you.
